NOTICE TO VILLAGE RESIDENTS

SEWER LATERAL MAINTENANCE RESPONSIBILITY

Dear Village Residents,

Please be advised that property owners are responsible for the maintenance, repair, and replacement of the sewer lateral serving their property, extending from the residence or building to the connection at the public sewer main per village ordinance 285-44.

The sewer lateral is the private sewer pipe that carries wastewater from your home or building to the Village's public sewer system. Property owners are responsible for keeping this line in good working condition and addressing any problems that occur within the private sewer lateral.

Common issues that may require maintenance or repair include:

  • Blockages or backups in the sewer lateral
  • Tree roots entering the sewer line
  • Cracked, broken, or collapsed pipes
  • Deteriorated or damaged sewer lines
  • Other conditions that prevent the proper flow of wastewater

If you experience a sewer backup or blockage, you should contact a qualified plumber or sewer service professional to inspect and determine the location and cause of the problem. Property owners are responsible for the costs associated with maintenance, repairs, or replacement of the private sewer lateral.

The Village is responsible for the public sewer main and related municipal infrastructure, while the property owner is responsible for the sewer lateral serving their property.

Residents are encouraged to have their sewer lateral inspected if they experience recurring backups, slow drainage, or other indications of a potential problem. Regular maintenance and early detection can help prevent more significant and costly repairs.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping maintain the proper operation of the community's wastewater system.
